Amgen Tour of California
This race is sure to remain a highlight of our 2008 season. When we found out about the possibility that Amgen and the Tour of California might have a women's event and that the event was to be held in our hometown of Santa Rosa, it seemed like a fairy tale.
For the first time since the founding of NorCal Velo Women’s Cycling Team back in 2004, we had four women qualified to race with the professionals: Tracy Barhydt, Cindy Carroll, Ashlee Staroba, and Claire House. It was incredible to have Cindy get a “call-up” at the start line thanks to her many wins and podium places at world-class events. As the racing commenced, we could hear our friends, family, sponsors, and supporters cheering and yelling "Go NorCal". Even while concentrating on the race, we could distinctly recognize familiar voices. We were racing on behalf of all the people who have supported the vision of our women's development team over the past 4 years. Thank you!
