Mary Bracken

Her teammates say:

Mary BrackenMary B. "is one of the toughest people on the face of the earth. She has never petered-out on a ride of any kind. And if she would have been with the Donner party, things would have turned out much better, in more ways than one. Mary is also a fine piano player, singer and story-teller. She is a rock-solid friend who can hold her alcohol and party all night like the pro that she is."

"I have a kind of funny story from my first race, a single speed race at the Humbug Hurry Up. I think it must have been 1996. Erika needed at least 3 people in the single speed category to be eligible for a cash prize. She convinced Mary B and I to race. Mary had just returned from a trip to Mexico. I dont think she had ridden in at least a month, maybe more. Well, you know Mary. She put those muscles of hers in high gear and blew by everyone with her one gear. About 3/4 through the race she took a spill down a ravine, sliced open her knee. She didnt seem to mind, finished second (just behind Erika) and won enough cash to pay for her stitches."

"Mary B. excels in tough conditions. The harder the better, i.e. Lemurian in the snow. She is known for looking calm, cool, collected and congenial, even while suffering (maybe its those Iowa childhood winters)."

"Marys the ultimate friend to have along on an all day Moab ride. One time she got us out of two dead end box canyons, fixed three flats for some guys we met along the trail, provided chocolate and pancake sandwiches when we ran out of Power Bars, and still managed to get us to town before dark."
