This event is modeled after the CBS show The Amazing Race. NorCal Velo volunteered to be the first "road block" of the day for 16 teams of Girl Scouts from all over Sonoma County. In order to receive their next clue, each team had to:
1) Look at a model of a cyclist and try to copy it by digging through a trunk of equipment and outfitting themselves properly with a uniform, helmet, gloves, ride food, etc. They also had to set the bike up with a pump, toolkit, and water bottles.

2) The next task was to complete the obstacle course properly. Each rider had to use the appropriate hand signals for "stop", "right turn", and "left turn".

3) The final task was to fix a flat tire. The girls received some basic instructions from a NorCal Velo team member, and the rest was up to them. Once the flat was fixed properly and pumped up to pressure, each team was given their next clue and off they went to the next "road block".

The girls learned a lot about whats necessary to wear and bring on a training ride. Most of them agreed that changing the flat tire was the most challenging part of the "road block", but Chandra pointed out afterward that some of them were quite good at it!
A special thanks to Safe Kids of Sonoma County for allowing NorCal Velo to use the Herb Greenberg Bike Rodeo Kit.
