Anatomy of a Bike Rodeo - Village Charter School
Anatomy of a Bike Rodeo - Village Charter School

Last weekend we helped Jim and the mechanics from NorCal Bike Sport put on a Bike Rodeo for about 25 kids from Village Charter School in Santa Rosa. Heres how these things are run off:

First the kids are registered and put through a thorough "Helmet Check". We adjust the helmets properly and make sure they are up to par. Kids without a proper fitting helmet are given one from Trips for Kids.

Then the kids take their trusty steeds over to the NorCal mechanics for a tune-up and safety-check. These boys were especially impressed by the mechanics and the hydrolic lift on the back of the NorCal van.

Then its time for the skills course. We hammer home the basics: Stop at all stop signs/lights and put a foot down. Never ride on the sidewalk. Always ride on the right-most side of the road. Use the proper hand signals. Then we practice on the skills course. laminated "Bicycle Licenses" are awarded to the graduates! Nice signal, kiddo!
