Cathy the Come-back Queen

I initially did this race out of loyalty to Claire, who has done so much for the girls on the team this year. It ended up being a highlight of my summer, and one of the most FUN things Ive done in a long time! The seven NorCal girls rode a confident race. It was awesome to see Elizabeth go for the solo; I had about a five second illusion of joining her in the breakaway, however, my legs didnt match my ambitions! It was really cool to have such smooth, strong team mates to ride behind, especially Brenda Phelps. That girl is strong! Rounding the last turn before the finish, Claire shouts, "Go, Cathy, Go!" so I did (she has that commanding voice...). I think I finished 6th out of 32 3/4 racers, 7th out of 40 overall (?)

Blue and orange were the colors of the day! 7 of us raced together in the 3/4/Masters 30+ race. NorCal seemed to be present at the front of the pack throughout the race. Elizabeth rode a few laps off the front in an effort to coherce a couple other riders into a break..unfortunately her lone effort didnt stick, and we all sprinted for the line in a pack sprint. After the race, I overheard a woman from another team say (in regards to what she mustve felt was a relatively tame race) "� nobody wanted to work, except for the NorCal girls." Thats right! Way to go team!
