One would think I learned my lesson about the heat at Davis, but no. It�s only 36 miles, so it can�t be that bad, right? An Alto Velo rider attacks. My mind says go, my legs say no. I�m able to get in with the 2nd group of 4, and that�s where I stayed for the 2nd half of the race. Good job to Penny and Rita for sticking it out! Finishing temperature: 110? Place: 8th

Pennys Report

Rita and I almost didnt even make it to the start line at the Livermore Hills RR. Most of the lanes on Hwy 80 were closed due to a big rig accident that had happened in the middle of the night. But we got there with just enough time to register and warm up for about 6 minutes. Some people say warming up is highly over-rated. In this case it was true because it was so hot in those hills that 6 minutes was plenty. In fact, the race was a really a test to see who would crack first in the heat. This was a circuit race with 6 laps so every lap we counted more girls standing by their cars with their tongues hanging out, glad to be done. But I was determined to finish and Rita is anything but a quitter, so we both hung in there and managed to not die of heat stroke.

Right after the race as Rita, Elizabeth and I sought some shade in a run down deserted old barn pouring water over our heads, the owner of said barn comes driving up in his truck and informed us that we were trespassing and needed to leave immediately or else. We all thought he was kidding but he was dead serious. All I can say is thank God for air conditioned cars!
