Maybe massive mileage really does work....

After our 300 mile Boba weekend, both Rita and I were pretty nervous about this race. I just figured there was no way I could pull anything off. But halfway through the race I glanced over at Rita..."How do you feel"? "I feel pretty good!" "Hey, me too!!!!!!!" I was so proud of us.

With four or so laps to go, Rita came up alongside side me, and I jumped on her wheel. She moved me up to the front like a champion. I was grateful.

It was argee-bargee on the last lap, but I found a little gap and then something happened....it was my bike again. She has a mind of her own. So off we went! -Clairebell

Celebrate Fremont Criterium

What a race! An L-shaped circuit with a 180 thrown in for good measure, a pretty technical course. And it was a bit windy today, too. According to the Fremont Freewheelers website, there were 29 starters with 27 finishing the race. Im not surprised at all there were a few who did no finish -- as well, there were several girls who got lapped -- that U-turn certainly made things quite challenging. But thats what Claire likes, and if you saw the podium shot, you know how well she did. Way to go, Claire! I did my best to stay close to Claire. And I tried to keep an eye on the other 3s in the race, since our category was being picked separately from the W 1/2. I wasnt sure if I would be fully recovered from BGDC, especially after I was decimated at Tuesdays Twilights, but it actually turned out ok. I was able to hang on, my legs felt good and I even made my way towards the front of the group near the end. Alas, as is too often the case, I am not very good at staying near the front. Another middle-of-the-pack finish. Still, I may do this one again next year, if only to try and improve on my placing.
