Cathy Takes the Silver Medal at Masters State Cross Champs!

Another beautiful day for cyclocross racing in the Bay Area. The day started off chilly, but by the time the womens races started at 2:15, most of us were wearing short sleeved skinsuits. Coyote Point is a super fun course. It starts with a short pavement section to spread people out, then turns into tacky single and double track up a hill. You descend down into sand, and run for about 30 yards alongside the bay. Next comes a long pavement section, more sand, some gravel, and a strength-sapping maze before some barriers, then a pavement finish. It was a long course, with lap times near 10 minutes.

Sarahs Report

Wow what an ass kicker and a reality check that this ass needs to get into shape after an 8-week hiatus off the bike. I have to say this was my favorite course so far, although I missed the Golden Gate race which I hear was a goodin�. I have to get the start down as I always manage to get out too slow and end up running up a normally rideable hill behind a backlog of riders. This course was challenging for me, and I am still learning how to maneuver my bike through the slow zig-zag sections and how to carry it through the running sections without feeling like my shoulder is wrecked afterward. There was great energy here and despite a disappointing finish I had fun. I fell at the end getting passed up for a 5th place finish (there were 21 of us). I did not have it on the flat fast parts but that was to be expected. My favorite part of all was stopping for the cold stella artois after the race. Next week is the final Surf City race which, according to the weatherman, may give us some true cross conditions.
