Surf City Cyclocross
Surf City Cyclocross #1
This will be short but sweet- I am sitting here looking like a Botox patient gone wrong after having my upper jaw broken Tuesday. I will be out a few weeks but I preceded my surgery with this great event in Soquel. I have to say getting 2nd for the 4th time this season is a little frustrating but I was not feeling my best this week. The course was great fun though. Started out on a gravel road and a dismount up hill before a sandy but short downhill. We road on some lawn that was super bumpy to approach the 2 barriers. There was then two more dismount hills followed by a steep sandy and quite sketchy downhill. I think Rachel Loyd was out to knock everyone off their bikes if they got in her way, agro at its finest. Fellow Norcal teammate Allison got 8th for the day in the A Class and I got passed with 1/2 a lap to go to get 2nd in the C Class. Weather was perfect, and I am getting used to the bike and the dismounting, bike carrying, running, etc joys of cyclocross. Hopefully I will be back in a few weeks for more fun.

This ones for you, Linz.....
Place: Soquel High (my high school) Conditions: not hot, just warm, yay! I raced the As just to see how I was stacking up against the fast girls this year. It is fun winning the 35+, but I always end up wondering how I would do in the elites, so for the VB races I am finding out. The answer is a solid ok. I liked the course, but definitely felt somewhat powerless in lots of places. I raced in a group with Lauren C and Erin K for pretty much the whole time, but lost all motivation and get up and go in the last lap ending up 8th. It would be cool if the other fast 35+ chicks would go that category so we could race eachother and actually have prizes and stuff but for some reason nobody does that. The course itself was relatively tech with very loose corners and sketchy off camber spots, but I didnt hear any of the women complaining. Rachel took it with Sarah a pretty close second. Notabley absent was the new star Shelly. She was probably recovering from all of her gold medals from track nationals! There are lots of new women this year which is very cool to see. Cross is hard, but everyone loves it that tries it! So come on out! That means you Lindsey!
