Cross for a Cause....

Weather - damn warm, what else? This was the first cx race run in Marin in many many years. As Cameron said, it had to be a benefit because fun is not allowed in Marin. The races was at a middle school and they did a pretty good job. Turnout was light, but that may have been helped by the fact that you couldnt find directions to the place. In the chicks As, I think there may have been 8 or 9 of us. Of course, in the Norcal womens scene that just means that instead of fighting for the middle of the pack I am fighting for the end. The course itself was pretty sketchy, lots of loose corners and some crazy tight stuff through the halls of the school. There were not too many places to pass, and that worked for me most of the time. I made a couple of whopper mistakes, riding off the course in one place and crashing in another and that pretty much relegated me to racing for 5th place against Colleen Wanty. She has been around racing cross for a long time so it was no gimme. It got exciting on the last lap. She had been sitting on for a lap or two and I knew I could not let her pass me. I shut her down every time I sensed her coming, but when we came to the longish run up she almost got me. I think she was pulling ahead of me at the top, so I threw my bike down an lurched onto it and went down this super loose and bumpy descent with only my hands and butt on the saddle. My feet were nowhere near the pedals. I dont know how I pulled it off. So, 5th place. Not bad.
