Bike Monkey MTB Race #2 - All Hail to the Bike Monkey

That old tried and true NorCal Velo winning strategy worked well for me at Lake Sonoma. I was the only woman rider and, surprise, the gold medal winner! Very low turnout for a race that was so great. For once the weather at Lake Sonoma was not scorching and of course it was put on by our favorite race promoter, Carlos Perez.

As usual the start was a mad dash for the single track up a paved climb. Fortunately the trail quickly opens up onto another passing opportunity in case you got stuck behind someone. The first lap is always the hardest for me, probably because I am thinking of the fact that it is only the first of many. The course is exactly the same as Billy Cross, it works you in ways that other courses don�t. Several dismounts through the washes and lots of variety in the terrain. On the second lap I got lapped by the pros and our own semipro, Chris Brown, who finished second overall.

Other than suffering chainsuck on the third lap, I had a great time and will definitely go back for more in the series.
