John Ramatici Memorial Criterium

The only complaint I have about the race today is that I had to race the whole thing with my mouth closed. This is really hard to do, but if I had opened my mouth it would have dried out completely. What a shock to the system to race in such hot conditions! It was great, though, because I rode to the course from home and Jesse met me there on the Langster. After the race we rode home together and it was like old times! Erika and Lisa walked down to spectate, our fellow country-bumkins (except not the ignorant kind).

The shortened our race to 40 minutes because of a nasty crash in the previous race. I am so sick of seeing people being taken away by the ambulance. This has been happening way to often. Its unnerving.

The race was hot and fast. Peeto did a good job of getting me and Chandra confused and an even better job of lying about how we were at the front doing work! No, that was Brenda Phelps! She was a rock star, as usual. In the end, Martina Patella broke away with 5 laps to go and just rode farther and farther away from the field. Jesse said she was hauling. So she won and then some other pros picked up the remaining top places, Laura, Tait Sato, etc.

Lindsay and Denise did great too! The whole race had an awesome down-home feel to it. Thanks Rene for doing these.
