And Shannon Takes Home a Gold Medal!

The Howell Mountain Challenge was AWESOME! The course was on a 10 mile loop in Angwin with tons of fabulous single track, and overall it felt like there was more descending than climbing ;-) Excellent.

Penny and I raced Sport class (2 laps) and Sara Piccolo raced Expert (3 laps- wowee!) Personally, this was one of my favorite race days ever! The course was great, I felt strong, and I made a friend during the race who I spent some time (chasing!) and riding with. This would be a great course for any of our teammates just getting into mountain biking because it is not very technical but tons of fun. Put it on your calendar for next year!

I finished first out of one racer in my age 19-29 category ;-) Gold medal!

Penny the Punisher Reports from Howell Mountain

After I got Cathys email about how NorCal was going to dominate Howell Mountain, I figured I better show. A quick call from Shannon the night before sealed the deal and the two of us packed up the Mini and headed for Angwin. We got there in plenty of time to warm up on the course and cheer on the semi-pro men heading out with Chris Brown leading the charge. Then it was our turn. Shannon and I started out together but that was the last I saw of her until the finish. She was flying. I had a great race. As always, I love riding in Angwin but hardly ever go there unless it is race day because the trails arent marked and it would be real easy to get lost.

The important thing is that we both came home with the gold. This always make Perry (the husband) very happy. The schwag and big fat rasberry on my thigh were an added bonus.
