Cross - Prestige #2

Today was the second BASP race with the venue Candlestick Park so we did not have to travel too far. We were off to a good start, pre- riding sat then staying the night at a friends in the city. We woke up and were out the door by 9:30 for Chriss 12:00 start time and a stop to Tartine my favorite bakery- we thought we were good to go. WRONG.... the womens Nike 1/2 marathon walkers were out in full force, our only way out of Seacliff to 25th AVE blockaded with a cop who said we may get out in an hour but most likely noon. There was a wall of walkers. As a former competitive runner I should be sympathetic to cars crossing the course, but these ladies were walking for crying out loud - 1/2 of them on cell phones or with jeweled crowns on their heads passing aid station with chocolate fountains and hoping to win a prize of jewelry. I made friends with a 92 year old man on his way to lawn bowling parked in front of us, he was enjoying watching "all the fit ladies." I on the other hand with my hungry 2 year old and annoyed husband was trying to make the best of it. So thank goodness for gregarious Seacliff homeowners. One parked behind us finally went ape shit after a poor sap in line had to finally hail a cab or he would miss his flight. He stood in front of the racers/walkers and said "this is what you do," to the cop mind you," you have them wait 2 mins to let us out so we can get by, these people are walking for c****t sake, not winning the marathon." Soooo we got through, sadly with no time to spare Tartine but a quick TJs stop for food and then to the race 75 mins early.

Chris struggled again with bike technical stuff and did not race how he planned but looked strong. I got out hard and felt great. They started the 35 plus As with us so I again was not sure where I was. A couple of them got me with 2 laps to go on a quite techie course. Lots of grass and a steep run up that was hard to get momentum on. I finished 4th again out of 23 girls but beat 2 girls that got me last week placing me 3rd in the series. I was 1:15 or so back from the leader and really need to close that gap. Didnt sleep much last night, so I guess that is my excuse. Velo Bella last week in Santa Cruz-sp
