Sarah Wins at Surf City!

Today was the Surf City Classic, in the past part of a series but the only one this year. I have to say Sabine from Velo Bella kicks ass organizing cross races. From the DJ pumping tunes to the graveyard full of tombstones and skeletons on the course the energy was awesome. Not wanting to drive to Santa Cruz I considered skipping out on this one because we can miss one Norcal Cup race to still be in contention in the series. Thankfully the race started at 1:30 so we slept in, took off at 9 am and were there by 11:00- 2 1/2 hours early, a record for us Piccolo/Brown family.

We were able to take our time, both pre-ride, enjoy the costume cross race- so hilarious- and feel relaxed at the start. I felt confident today and went out with the 2 gals who have been beating me this year. and just passed them the first lap and went for it. I felt great and lloooovvveedd the course- a mtn bikers course for sure. there was some good paved sections with some fun bumpy downhills and a windy grass section. One dismount involved jumping over a downed tree and running up a fairly steep hill. All 3 run-ups were steep, my college track days came in handy. I ended up winning pretty good, the 2 girls in contention for the Norcal cup DNFd which helps me a bit for holding on to my first place in the series. Next week is Pilacartis number 3 at Mc Claren park in South San Francisco. Rumor has it Penny and Mariko will be joining me!!!!
