There was a great turn-out and beautiful weather at this last Lake Sonoma race of the year. Personally, I had a remarkably strange race, but a fine day out there overall. I felt weird and ill the entire first lap, not sure why! After lap 1, Cathy helped me remove my helmet and Camelbak (both imperative for mid-race recuperation apparently!) and I sat down for awhile to rest and decide what to do. I decided to continue riding, and to just enjoy being out there riding. I finished my 3 laps and then kicked back to enjoy the post-race barbecue and awards. Jason Silvereck made some awesome, custom medals for the series winners. Cathy was also there from NorCal, and she teamed up with her Dad, Les, for this race. She rode fast-fast-fast, maybe setting a female course record? A highlight was this race was the costume contest, and particularly the "sexy bunny" costume worn by Fritz Wisor, complete with a bunny tail that resembled a ball of mozzarella cheese. Too funny.

Last mountain bike race of the season, and I managed to convince my dad to do his first ever bike race with me as 2 person team! He did great, and experienced firsthand that familiar mountain bike race phenomenon of feeling like crap and wanting to die immediately after you finish, then 30 minutes later being filled with euphoria and excited for your next race! Carlos and all the Bike Monkey gang made the event fun, as usual, with BBQ and beer (thanks to our fabulous sponsor LAGUNITAS!!). We got medals, which is always fun, and Shannon also represented NorCalVelo with an overall Sport Woman series win, including an incredible handmade medal from Jason Silverek made out of junked bike parts.
