Claires CCCX#1 Race Report

BRUTAL! Sunday was a slap in the face...my cyclocross bike felt like a foreign object. The day was nice and cool, a perfect day for cyclocross. The course was new to me and I was able to ride only a few sections before the start.

Actually, some divine power kept me upright through the race, because it wasnt down to skill on my part. Speaking of staying upright, holy shit, Barbara Howe fishtailed down the first descent like a madwoman, holding on and riding it out until the bitter end...Ive never seen anything like it. She finally went down, but her tenacity was incredible. And she went on to catch the leaders and win the race. Tough as nails.

Hillary and Allison from Hunter Cycles rode hard at the front the entire race and ended up finishing 4th and 5th. My race was nothing much to report on anyway (SOMEONE has to finish last!), as the action was up the road.

Ah, yes...Hunter Cycles. I have something to say about those bikes. The Friday before the race, Jesse and I went down to Santa Barbara for his sisters wedding. We got into town close to 11 pm and I was totally fried from driving. I pulled into the carport of the hotel with my cross bike on the rack. Now if that isnt the worst sound in the world.....I almost cried. ("No!!! Not my cross bike! Idiot! "). But check it out: I got out of the car expecting my bike to be scrap metal, but my Hunter is SO BOMBER that the bike was unscathed...the bike rack had been wrenched off and twisted, but the bike was straight. Yeah.
