McLane Pacific Race Report...Paulineator Style

Well hairy legs Humboldt made it to her first big road race. Verdict: Successful survival complete with many lessons learned.

In the Crit I was goofy footed & eventually pulled by the fat man. Lets just say my broken down pick-up truck needed a bump start.

In the road race this happy puppy dog managed to survive: 1st- avoided a pile up, 2nd- amazonian woman leaning into my handlebars & - overall the general mass confusion of 94 amatuer women in the heart of the California Valley. Wow.

For my first adventure in big city road races 26th out of 94 women aint bad.

About a half a dozen NOrCal riders - this should be fun! Futzing with dirt in my cleats, I started toward the back of the relatively large pack. On the road, there was much sketchiness upon encountering pebbles, changes in elevation, and cow poop. I knew I needed to move up, but was scared of the sketchiness - which promptly when down across the road. Many stopped to observe the carnage, while I tried to ride through it as the pack rode away. Ella and I tried chasing for a long tiem with various other riders severed by the crash, then ended up riding together to the finish. Congrats to Penny and Mary Anne (1st Road Race!) who were smart enough to hang with the lead pack. Lesson learned from the weekend - Do not start in the back!
