Katrina defended her podium position this Sunday at the King Ridge Grasshopper! Heres her race report:
Here it is Tuesday and Im back on my feet!
Grasshopper #5 The Big Daddy! The day began with great weather, so far so good...
Head up to Occidental, a smaller group this time, maybe 50-60.. good size considering all the other things going on, Cloterium ect. Just Ella and I racing today from the team, but, a great turnout of NorCal girls wishing us well, Kim, Tera, Mary and Eka.
My plan for the day 1) Prevail. 2) Hang on as long as possible..hopefully longer than prior Grasshoppers.
Things were going well as we rolled down the BoHo and Moscow, the feel of the pack seemed relaxed. Austin Cr. was my worry, since things speed up there... sure enough, I begin to loose adhesion, oh well I say, its going to be a long day. Then a good DFL Samaritan named Cameron comes by saying "hop on" Okay! He brings me back up to the pack where the living is easy.
We all stay together until the rollers on Kings Ridge where things naturally sort out... I see Ella up ahead and speed up to catch her, she was doing a Half-hopper today in order to attend the Cloterium, but I tried to drag her along for my own purposes... We climbed until we came upon Jesse, smile and say GU. Hi Jesse!
Ella set me free at the top of the ridge. I was alone on the best road anywhere. Okay, only Hauser, Ft. Ross and Willow Creek left to go, three tiny hills... I decide to rest on Hauser, because they say Ft. Ross is steep... No problems so far, locate the dirt section. Hey, Its got some climbing on it! Not too much. and the decent is alright, let it roll.. Pop out at the campground, get water, move on.
I begin to feel my legs a bit, hum. Where is that Ft. Ross? Maybe Ill rest on that too... Well it looks okay at first, how could such a pretty road hurt so much? I creep up it occasionally swatting at the shifters looking for another gear, sad. People at the top! More DFL angels! Dan and Adrian. They rolled out ahead of me, and later I spot them in Jenner fueling up. Im sure theyll catch me since theyre fast.
Finally Willow Creek! I even made it past the spot where I flatted on GH1 without flatting...but that was soon to change. Climbing and feeling good, bump bump. Yes a flat! Here come the happy couple, there they go... I get back on and resume, so close now. Such a good day, but I have one more wish-- Will I make it up the evil twins in good form? Yes. Hey, theres the DFL couple! We hook up and ride together to the finish! Making friends and suffering, thats what its all about.
The End. Many thanks to, Mig, Tera, Kim, Jesse and the Union for parking/restrooms.
