Hey! Luzia ("Brazil") and I are here in Southern California, racing in the wind, grit, and rain AGAIN! As far as I know, people only live here for the weather, so whats up with that? There was some confusion today about whether or not Luzia was registered, but they let her race so were both really happy about that. I absolutely love our new kits and its been great sporting the NorCal colors. Hah! Our kits rule. I cant quite report on this mornings time trial yet because we lit out immediately, but the results should be posted soon. It was a 4 mile uphill time trial, so Im not holding my breath. More later....
After stage 2, Luzia and I are very frustrated. Half of Fridays results were off by 30 seconds, including ours. Some sort of human error that was not corrected until 15 minutes prior to yesterdays stage. Yesterdays road race was difficult, but both Luzia and I felt satisfied with our efforts. Unfortunately our results were incorrect yet again; they placed Luzia at the back of the group with which she finished, even though she won the sprint from that group. My result was somehow not recorded, and I was listed as DNF on the results. Very frustrating, as I felt as though I had put in a good effort to finish the race. Were off to see the race officials this morning to make an official protest, because the rules stipulate that if you do not finish within 5% of the winners time, you may not complete the next stage (ie. todays criterium). Ugh.
If I were to complete this last section of my "race report", it would cover about 10 minutes of racing...thats how long I lasted in todays criterium. Instead I will recount some of this weekends more entertaining events:
1) After assuring our new teammate, Luzia, that the way I drive is perfectly normal in the United States, and that I have not had a ticket in the last 15 years, I get pulled over for doing 85 in a 55mph zone. She just stared at me and said "Youre crazy!"
2) Upon returning home to my parents house after Fridays time trial in the rain and grit (the landslides have wreaked havoc on the roads down there), Luzia takes one look at our bikes and says "no good". She proceeds to overhaul both our bikes, with such care and attention to detail that I was ashamed. When she finished, my bike was cleaner than it had been in years. Apparently she does this after every ride. I told her "Youre crazy!"
3) My sister Sarah is having a baby in a few weeks, and we had a baby shower at the house on Saturday night. Now, both my family and my sisters friends are not quite...normal...so the baby shower had a St. Patricks Day theme and included some creative (?) games. For example, my sisters friend Stacy took 6 diapers and 6 different chocolaty candy bars and melted each candy bar inside a diaper. She put the diapers out on a tray, and the guests had to sniff and inspect each diaper in order to identify the name of the candy bar. So yeah, essentially, people were standing around sniffing what appeared to be shitty diapers. I asked Luzia how the party compared to a baby shower in her countryIn Brazil, is ver ver different.
