Return of the Jedi
Paulines Race Report
This race started out less than pretty. With heavy and tired legs, the initial sprint to the single track up a mild grade was less than desireable as I watched many ride away. As soon as I caught up to them on the single track I crashed. Then 2 minutes later I dropped my chain. I reached the bottom of the fire road climb and someone yelled, "your only 10 minutes behind." How did I loose ten minutes? Well something happened because I started seeing people and that lead to passing them. (The universe must love me) Finally, I caught up to the 2nd place women and I tried to drop her 4 times! Amazingly, I dropped her on the fireroad flats - decent. What the heck, who knows I might catch 1st. I drueled in race lust. I just dug in deep and flew down the mountain. Heading onto the last section of the race (immaculatly banked single track) I glimpsed someone ahead. I caught her. Wow, I guess I can be pretty aggressive because I passed her on tight single track and than peddled like hell to gain 2 minutes on her. Sometimes you have a good day despite a terrible start. I am truly grateful for that.
