Super Prestige CX #5

I feel like luck was not on my side this week in the health department. But... I did my best. Before the race I tried in vain to wire out my shifting issues with my front deraileur. Thanks to Ryan at Rock Lobster he really tried hard to get me going. I had a bad start and got stuck behind some slower gals. Totally my fault but getting around them was tough and by the time I did, I lost my group. This course is really fun with a dirt section that is really fit for me. I have to admit I still felt pretty ill and weak but I really just had to get in the top 10 to maintain my overall standing. In the end I got 8th today and finished 8th in the series. I came within close sight of the group but once they hit the pavement and my shifting issues, I was spent. It was a good day though, and I hope to kick this lingering cold and get ready for some holiday cervezas and take a much needed brake from short races, getting some fun long stuff in. Chris the hubby got 6th and 6th overall, and Heather finished 10th. Gabe 4th in the series. It was great racing with them and supporting each other in this tough as nails series.

I was super excited about this race because it was the last one in the series and it had a fun technical dirt section. But, alas, it was an uphill start, and I had a slow start and immediately went to the back of the group. I gained momentum on the downhill, but crashed when I tried to pass a woman in the loose dirt. I hit the deck pretty hard, and when I got back on my bike, my front wheel was out of true and rubbing on the breaks every rotation. So, I switched into plan B mode, and decided to just be as smooth as I could and ride to the finish line in one piece. I raced hard and was pleased that I managed to not come in dead last, and held onto my 10th overall in the series for the B category. Cross is a tough discipline, and I'm grateful to have raced this season and improved my skills a bunch. It was fun going on training rides with Sarah P., and practicing run-ups and remounts...I think it will surely improve my mountain biking and it was a fun way to spend the fall! Sarah ended up 8th in the A's in the series and Gabe got 4th! I couldn't have done it without their support. Thanks so much, and I'm already looking forward to next season and perhaps purchasing a true cross bike between now and then:)
Thanks for reading,
-Heather
