Bike Monkey 'Cross
http://www.bikemonkey.net/oldsite/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.cxsr08CXSR08!
This weekend's racing, racing, and more racing began with Bike Monkey's first ever cyclocross race. The vibe was so 'cross. Carlos nailed it, of course. All of us here at NorCal are looking forward to a full series of these events next fall.
The Nor Cal girls swept the category C podium, with Rachel Saul (not pictured) taking 3rd, Penny Elliott taking 2nd, and Heather Cafferatta on her Specialized Safire FSR full suspension mountain bike at the top!
The B's race was dominated by Shannon Sobeck on her Specialized Era full suspension mountain bike! Goooooo! Congrats as well to Alexis Colin (Bike Peddler) and Sarah (Breakaway Bikes)
And of course, Sarah Piccolo won the A's race, leagues ahead of everyone!
Sorry Sarah, my memory card was full so I dont have a pic of you on the podium! :) - Claire
This event was entirely awesome! My favorite part was the fact that so many of my local cycling friends were there to cheer us on...There was a friendly face around every corner, along with a healthy dose of heckling to keep it real :-) Great live music by Blue Shift, sunshine and mud... I also now have a personal understanding of the great speed and talent of Sarah Piccolo, as we raced in the same field! Great job, Sarah! And, Thanks to Bike Monkey- that was FUN! -Shannon
Check out some awesome pics at the Bike Monkey website!
Kudos to Carlos and Bike Monkey crew for this long overdue cx race in Santa Rosa. Always putting on a great event, Carlos overdid himself with live music, and bike give-aways. sooo fun. I look forward to the series next year. It was my debut in the A catergory and all I had to do was finish to win as I was the only A rider that day. It was a blast though and the course was quite fun. We just need to get more girls out there next time and hopefully it will be during CX season to bring out a larger field. Norcal took wins all around though which was something to be proud of. Having the sprinklers on earlier in the day to mud things up a bit helped make the course more interesting. - Sarah P.
Wow, I think I might have to get myself a custom cross frame after all!?! Being my first ever cross race, I practiced mounting/dismounting my bike a ton before the race and it surely paid off. Penny and I rode together for the first couple of laps, and somehow I got up the energy to kick it in towards the end of the race. I felt confident on the course, and enjoyed the high intensity of the race. Thank you Carlos for putting on the race, it was a blast!
