Burlingame Crit
http://www.burlingamecriterium.com/Ashlee Takes 3rd at Burlingame!
So last night John and I drove down to San Jose to see my sister in a dance recital, which was two hours sitting on bleachers. This was non-too comfortable. We followed this with sleeping at my parents house on the hardest bed known to man. So I awoke this morning to a sore butt, back and left shoulder...not so great for bike racing. My mother made it up to us by making homemade blueberry pancakes, bacon and fresh sqeezed orange juice. So just before the race starts and after 6-8 trips to pee I find this group of people barbecuing and drinking on the back stretch of the coarse. They ask me if I know some girl named Mary that races for Webcor and I have no idea who they are talking about. They usually cheer for her every year...not sure why. Anyway, I say "my name is Ashlee and you all can cheer for me. It won't be that exciting because I plan to sit at the back for most of the race and move up in the last 5 laps." They say they will cheer anyway, and then they invite me and any teamates I have to come over for drinks after we are done.

So the race starts and Claire the Rockstar wins the first prime. I'm chilling in the back for a few laps. Then after awhile I hear the cheering start on the back side. I feel like I should at least do something, so I follow the next move that goes off the front. It's not very successful and I am back midpack by the next lap. Then after what seems like only a few minutes, it is annouced ten laps to go. I'm not quite feeling it till I hear some great chanting on the back side. So I gotta please my new fans and decide I should really move up. As per every last 5 laps it is a cluster. Claire is chasing down some chick off the front followed by Christine from Webcor and I'm sitting 6th wheel. With three laps to go the front slows and surprise - the swarm - I'm mic pack. Coming into 1 to go I'm sitting 20th and make a path straight thorugh the middle...maybe pissing a few people off. First corner I make up 2 more positions and on the back side I'm 5th wheel. Last corner and I see the code three girl go and I try to get on her wheel. Her jump was too quick and I'm out of luck. I thought I might get second 'till I see a PROMAN (Hanan) girl come up the outside...oh well.We have our awesome new fans on 1220 Some Street Name I don't' know, who say we can set up our tent in their front yard next year and they'll be our personal cheering sqad. As for our team it rocks...Thanks Claire, Denise and Rita for all the support. It is too bad Claire is leaving us for Australia because she's in great form right now. Friday is the 4th...my favorite race ever so I hope you all come and race and enjoy soaking in the fountain before the race start.
Ashlee
PS Now you all know why I don't write these that often...sorry for all the poor grammer.
