This past weekend Denise and I headed down to Visallia  to do the Orosi road race/ Hanford crit.  The race started out cold with light rain but by the time we hit the hills, the pace picked up and we all warmed up really quick.  Half way up the first climb I noticed it was me and seven other women.  By the time we were on our second lap there were only five left.   CVC's cyclist took off on the second lap while the four of us attempted to get organized and pull her back in.  No success in catching her and it ended up with a bunch sprint to the finish.  I took third from the sprint, so fourth overall.  I am really happy with how strong my legs are feeling and with mentally pushing myself to a new threshold of pain :)

 

On Sunday it was Denise, Rita, and myself at the Hanford crit.  It was a women's open field, with only 21 women racing.  This is my first time racing back to back so I already wrote this crit off as training.  But once the whistle blew I was off and immediately in the zone.  It started out pretty fast with Velo Bella girls taking turns attacking.  There were several strong women in the field so we just kept pulling them back in. Rita and I stayed to the front taking turns on each other's wheels and just hanging in the pack.  It came down to about 10 of us sprinting in the finish, and not feeling confident enough to move up I stayed about 8th wheel back and came in 8th, right behind Rita at 7th.  This is Denise's start to a long race season. She shook off the cob webs and is getting great fitness by going to the races and challenging herself  with a really hard weekend.  We all did awesome, finished our races, and consequently had great workouts on our bikes :)  Thanks for reading,  next week Wards Ferry!!
