Sea Otter Road Race

So Saturday was Sea Otter's road race.  There were clear skies with 30+mph winds, and they were cold!!  I had a great warm up and my legs felt awesome after sitting in the hot tub and having sarah rub Arnicare all over 'em the night before, haa!  It was a neutral start where we descended down a steep hill and out to the course.  It was a cat 3 only race and we had five laps totalling 47 miles.  The course had some steep power climbs, rollers, and of course wind.   I decided that I needed to stay 2nd wheel the whole time which proved to be a bad move.  I found myself in the front pulling the pack along.  As I floated a few wheels back the pace became so slow, it felt a bit dangerous.  I figured even if I'm out in the wind I'll cruise at my tempo and I'll be good for the finish. Well that didn't work out.  What was left of the pack descended down a final time, and then motored to the up-hill finish.  The girls took off and my legs were done.   I was hoping for some to blow up, but up they went to the finish.  I finished mid-pack.  Lesson learned, keep my nose out of the wind and sit in 'till the finish..... ah well, there's always next week!
